On Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, media mogul and owner of News Corporation, which includes Fox News the Wall Street Journal, made an announcement via his newspaper of the engagement to former supermodel Jerry Hall. Hall had been in a relationship with rock star of the Rolling Stones Mick Jagger since the 1970's and reported married Jagger in 1990, but it was determined that the marriage was invalid in 1999 in a British court. Murdoch, 84 and Hall, 59, made the announcement in the "Births, Marriages and Deaths" section of the Times. The two have reportedly been dating for four months prior to the engagement announcement.
Considering Murdoch's vast wealth, it would be interesting to learn what type of prenuptial agreement, if any, is formed between the two on the verge of marriage. For someone of significant wealth, it may be important for Murdoch to protect his investments and property. In addition, Murdoch has six children stemming from three previous marriages.
It is estimated that Murdoch's worth is approximately $13 billion dollars. Considering his children and significant net worth, Murdoch must make certain all his assets and worth is protected to make certain his wishes are met in the event of a divorce or even death.
This can be especially important considering Murdoch's elder age of 84. For people entering marriage under such conditions, understanding complex family law and potential outcomes in the event of a high asset divorce may help prevent issues down the road. Even for those married or on the verge of married with assets below $13 billion dollars, it is important to understand the laws concerning property division when entering a marriage or on the verge of divorce.
